SUMMARY:3rd Annual Earth Day River Clean-Up
DESCRIPTION:April 2021 marks the 3rd annual River Clean-Up event co-hosted by South Platte Renew (SPR)\, and this year it’s going virtual. Between April 12 and April 25\, volunteers can join SPR and the cities of Littleton and Englewood from their own community by collecting debris and trash from their neighborhoods\, local rivers\, lakes\, or parks. \nThis year\, SPR is encouraging a DIY (do-it-yourself) approach and is expanding its focus to include the South Platte River and any parks\, lakes\, or other areas in our community that need revitalizing! Pick a location that’s meaningful to you and help keep it looking great. Trash bags (limit one per person) will be available for pick-up at SPR. \nThe goal this year is to collect 100 bags of trash or recycling over the two-week period. SPR will share Clean-Up progress online\, and participants that register will be entered to win prizes! \nPlease take a moment to review the Safety Checklists in order to keep you and your group safe while participating in this event.  \nIf you have any questions\, please contact SPR’s Education and Outreach Specialist Deb Parker at 303-762-2638 or dparker@englewoodco.gov \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Used Oil and Cooking Grease Take-Back Event
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the fourth annual Grease and Oil Take-Back event. Residents of Englewood\, Littleton\, and our 19 connector district areas can drop off used cooking oil and/or automotive engine oil\, free of charge at the facility. \nWe will be accepting the oils in a socially distanced manner this year.  Please bring all oils and greases in disposable containers\, as we will not be able to take them from you and return the containers due to safety requirements.   \nRules: \n\nDrop off is free.\nMust be a resident of Englewood\, Littleton\, or our connector districts.\nThere is a maximum of 10 gallons per household.\nOil from commercial businesses will not be accepted.\nCooking oil and automobile oil must be kept separate\nOnly liquid oil can be accepted. No hardened grease.\nNo oils contaminated with fuels\, solvents\, or water.\n No oil filters or antifreeze. \n\nRecycling oil is extremely important to maintain a healthy water renewal facility and collection system. Dumping used cooking oil and/or automotive oil down the drain causes it to congeal. This results in clogs and blockages in homes as well as in the collection system. It also contributes to dangerous conditions in the collection systems and damages the health of the useful bacteria in water renewal.

SUMMARY:Gas Recovery Facility Ribbon Cutting Celebration
DESCRIPTION:South Platte Renew (SPR) facility is set to unveil Colorado’s very first Gas Recovery Facility and Pipeline Injection Project. This project will be used exclusively by SPR to inject the natural gas recovered from its wastewater treatment process\, into Xcel Energy’s natural gas pipeline. \nSPR\, has worked closely with Xcel Energy\, Carrollo Engineers\, J.R. Filanc Construction Company and Bluesource to produce this gas recovery facility that will reduce the local carbon footprint by 5\,000 metric tons of CO2 per year\, which is enough to drive 13.5 million miles in a single car. \nThe official ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Thursday\, October 31\, 2019 at the SPR facility.  The presentation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a complimentary breakfast at 10:30 a.m. \nThe ceremony is open to the public and other agencies interested in the project. To RSVP to the event\, please contact Deb Parker at (303) 762.2638 or by email at dparker@englewoodco.gov. Guests are asked to park in the front parking lot during the event. \n“The Pipeline Injection Project is a unique approach in innovation that will benefit the environment\, our customers\, and our facility. We are beyond excited to share this pioneering accomplishment with our communities\,” said SPR Director\, Pieter Van Ry.
