Requirements
The South Platte Renew (SPR) septic waste receiving facility only accepts domestic wastes originating from sanitary uses, specifically from septic tanks and portable toilets. Haulers must obtain a permit in advance to use our facility. Septic Waste Permittees have manifest, sampling, and disposal requirements. Review the Trucked and Hauled Septage Permit Template for more details.
Acceptable Discharges
Domestic septic wastes are wastes that have been pumped from a residential septic tank, port-o-let, or waste holding tank and hauled to another location for final treatment or disposal. Wastes of any origin other than domestic, such as commercial and industrial processing wastes, water from a groundwater test, water from a construction operation or process, or grease wastes, may NOT be discharged as septic wastes. Discharging hauled waste directly into the wastewater system (sewers) at any location other than an approved waste-receiving facility is illegal.
Purpose of Septic Waste Receiving Facility
South Platte Renews septic waste receiving facility was constructed to protect local water resources by providing a convenient, easy-to-use service for the disposal and subsequent treatment of septic wastes. The septic waste receiving facility provides a way to integrate wastes into the South Platte Renews treatment process safely while minimizing odors. The strict regulation and requirements of the septic waste receiving facility ensure that clean water facilities, like South Platte Renew, can protect worker and public health, our treatment works, the environment, and the quality of the South Platte River watershed by ensuring septic waste is managed and disposed of properly.
How To Obtain A Septic Permit With South Platte Renew
Step 1 | Submit Permit Application to South Platte Renew
Step 2 | Submit Required Documents
- A surety bond is a three-party agreement under which the (1) surety guarantees to the (2) oblige the performance of an obligation by the (3) principal
- The septic hauler’s prior discharge history determines each surety bond’s amount. The new septic haulers’ surety bond amount will be no less than $1,000 and is estimated on expected discharge volume
- The Certificate of Liability must show the holder as “City of Englewood”
- Workers’ Compensation coverage can be an addition to the Certificate of Liability policy, or a separate policy
Step 3 | Vehicle Inspection for Each Septic Hauling Vehicle
- Schedule an appointment by emailing SPRpretreatment@englewoodco.gov
- Bring the vehicle to South Platte Renew for inspection.
Step 4 | Finalize Permit
After passing the inspection, you may sign your permit. Once the permit is finalized, South Platte Renew will then provide one gate access card assigned to each specific vehicle and issue a septic permit. This gate card allows access to discharge at the South Platte Renew septic waste receiving facility during the hours of 7 AM to 7 PM, 7 days a week.
Vehicle Inspection
A gate card request form must be submitted for all Septic Waste Fleet Vehicles. Each vehicle is required to be inspected and photographed by South Platte Renew Pretreatment personnel. The facility inspects each vehicle’s condition and confirms the truck’s discharge capacity. All pertinent information will be compiled into the hauler’s permit with the City of Englewood. Vehicles that fail inspection must make all required corrections and then contact the South Platte Renew Pretreatment Division to schedule another inspection.
Manifesting Requirements
All hauled septic waste must be documented with South Platte Renew septic waste receiving tickets, which are available at the septic waste receiving facility.
Sampling Requirements
All permitted haulers are subject to quarterly sampling requirements at the Septic Waste Receiving Facility, or at South Platte Renews request, as a permit requirement.
Disposal Fee Collection Procedures
Septic waste haulers must pay disposal fees for discharging any septic waste loads at the city-approved South Platte Renew receiving facility. South Platte Renew will establish one account for billing purposes for each hauler company. Disposal fees are billed at $0.09 per gallon on a per-load basis at total truck capacity. Payment options include check or money order, made payable to “City of Englewood.” Balances must be paid monthly, and access to the Septic Waste Receiving Facility is restricted for accounts that are two weeks overdue without arrangements.
