Industrial Pretreatment

Does This Apply To My Business?

Whether you are new to our service area, changing your processes, or simply have questions about whether any pretreatment requirements apply to your business, we are here to help you find answers. A great place to start is by filling out the Industrial Waste Survey for individual businesses or for Multi-Tenant Property Managers. The survey will ask you questions about your business and any wastewater discharged from your process to help South Platte Renew evaluate whether any pretreatment requirements are needed.

Certain types of facilities may require a discharge permit. If based on the information obtained from the completed Industrial Waste Survey this applies to your facility, your facility may receive a permit application which must be completed and submitted to South Platte Renew in the timeframe specified in the accompanying letter.

Purposes Of The Program

Discharges from Industrial Facilities may contain pollutants that can impact worker health and safety, the collection system, the treatment plant, and our local environment. South Platte Renew evaluates all businesses in our service area to determine whether any pretreatment requirements are needed. The purpose of South Platte Renews evaluation is to help businesses understand their requirements and insure proper measures are in place for protecting our system, community, and environment.

Prohibited Discharges Applicable To All Facilities

In addition to pretreatment requirements that an industrial facility may be subject to, the following pollutants are strictly prohibited from discharge:
  • Hazardous waste;
  • Liquids, solids, or gases that may result in fire or explosion;
  • Solid or viscous substances which may obstruct flow;
  • Corrosive or toxic pollutants;
  • Residues, sludges, or scums that are unsuitable for reclamation and reuse;
  • Colored wastes such as dyes, radioactive wastes, and liquid wastes from chemical toilets, trailers, campers, or other recreational vehicles;
  • Wastewater having a pH of less than 5.0.
For a complete list of prohibited pollutants and limitations, see 12-2-5 (B) of the Englewood Municipal Code or 7-5-25 (C) of the Littleton Municipal Code.

Spill Prevention

To prevent wastes, spills, and chemical products from reaching the sanitary sewer, all commercial and industrial facilities must have documented procedures, operations, activities, logs, etc. used to help prevent accidental spills or slug discharges to the sewer. For more information, please refer to South Platte Renews Control Plan Policy.
