On Saturday, April 22, the community turned up to clean up at the South Platte Renew’ (SPR) first annual River Walk and Community Cleanup Project in celebration of Earth Day. Ninety-nine participants collected over 70 bags of trash and recycling from the shore line of the South Platte River surrounding the water renewal facility. The weather was beautiful, and with safety equipment and lunch provided, individuals of all ages were happy to partake in the Earth Day Event.
The River Walk and Community Cleanup Project represented one of many new events that the SPR hosts to encourage community engagement around stewardship of the South Platte River. This turnout was much larger than anticipated for a first year event, and the success will surely lead to another cleanup in 2019. To learn more about the event, click here.
