Each November South Platte Renew (SPR) hosts a Used Oil Collection Event. In 2017, 38 Littleton and Englewood community members dropped off their used cooking oil and automotive engine oil free of charge recycling 100 gallons of used motor oil and 50 gallons of used cooking oil.

Recycling oil is extremely important to maintain a healthy collection system and wastewater treatment plant. Dumping used cooking oil down the drain causes it to congeal resulting in clogs and blockages in homes as well as in the collection system. Dumping used automotive oil down the drain can cause dangerous conditions in the collections systems and damage the health of the useful bacteria at the wastewater treatment plant.

We are extremely excited to offer this new service to the residents of Littleton and Englewood. Due to the success of the 2017 collection event, the SPR will be hosting this event again on Saturday, November 24, 2018, 9 a.m. – noon. For more information, click here.
